Archaeological finds excavated from the Troy archaeological site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a history of about 5,000 years, will be exhibited in the Troy Museum to be built in Tevfikiye Village in Çanakkale.
The Ministry organised the “Troy Museum National Architectural Project Competition” for the museum project. A tender was held on 19 April 2013 for the construction of the winning project, and the contract was signed on 28.06.2013. Construction began on 01.07.2013, and the construction and exhibition arrangement of the Troy Museum is planned to be completed and opened to visitors by October 2014.
With a total enclosed construction area of 11,200 m², of which 3,000 m² is exhibition hall, the museum will display archaeological finds from the Troy site and from excavations in the province of Çanakkale in line with contemporary museology. The museum will also include Troy artefacts that were smuggled out of the site to the USA, returned to our country through the efforts of the Ministry’s General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums, and are currently exhibited in the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations.
